Verbatim: Buhari’s action on judges a threat to democracy- Nigerian Bar Association

The Nigeria Bar Association calls on President Buhari to make sure all security agencies responsible for the arrest of some Nigerian judges be put to order,

Speaking during the valedictory sitting for the Honourable Justice Suleiman Galadima, President, NBA said that this military style of operations by which the DSS are adapting totally unacceptable in a democratic society

The DSS on Friday, October 7, and Saturday October 8, raided the homes of some judges across the country and recovered more than 800, 000 dollars from them

“we deem actions as illegal and unconstitutional, the unacceptable against private citizens and moreso justices of supreme court in Nigeria should stop.

Last night, the presidency issued a statement by the Senate special media assistant to the president soughed to justify the actions of the DSS stating ” the recent surgical operations against some judicial officials is specifically targeted at corruption and not the judiciary as an institution”

According to him, a press conference was held in Lagos condemning the actions of the DSS and also demanded that President Buhari should all security agencies responsible for this action to order.

I call on fundamental changes not only in the legal profession but in a way we can maintain discipline and professional standard of the bench, he said.
