Governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello has said he was in Abuja to brief President Muhammadu Buhari about the flood incidence that is ravaging the state.
Bello while speaking with State House Correspondents after his meeting with the president said although the disaster is not peculiar to Kogi state, however, the state remains the worse hit considering the fact that it is the point of convergence for River Benue and River Nigeria.
He thanked the president for swiftly deploying the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and other security agencies to the state.
“As I speak with you NEMA is already on their way to Lokoja to assess the level of damage.”
He added that about 10 Local Government Areas have been submerged by the flood.
Meanwhile, the governor also spoke on the current political happenings in his state. He alleged that opposition parties in the state had lost their structures. He believes his style of leadership has changed the political landscape of Kogi as evident in the State House of Assembly and APC membership base in the state.
“We met Kogi State House of Assembly with APC being the minority party; we have the overwhelming majority today. We had only 85, 000 registered membership in Kogi but as of today, we have over a million members.
“Yesterday, we held a decamping rally, were SDP state chapter collapsed. ADC, PDP, majority of them, including Kwankwasiya, they burned the caps and throw away their horses.”
