Possession Of Illegal Firearms: FCT Police recover 425 assorted weapons
The Federal Capital Territory Command of the Nigerian Police Force on Monday, April 10 said it had recovered a total of 425 firearms.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Jimoh Moshood, most of the firearms were voluntarily surrendered while some were recovered by Force Headquarter Joint Task Force Team in the course of investigations and discharge of duties.
The weapons include grenade, AK 47 rifles, pump action guns, single barrel gun, among others.
The mop-up of prohibited firearms from unauthorized persons and group of persons is a directive from the Inspector General (IG) of Police, Ibrahim Idris, to ensure safety and security of all Nigerians across the federation.
Idris had given 21 days ultimatum, effective from February 22, for voluntary submission of such firearms.
The Police also revealed that Prohibited firearms were also recovered in all 36 states of the federation with Abia state taking the lead having recovered 1380 arms and ammunition.
