Nnamdi Kanu wants Army to vacate his father’s house ahead of burial

Nmandi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, has asked the Nigerian Army to withdraw their troops from the premises of his father’s house in Afaraukwu community, Umuahia, Abia State.

Speaking on behalf of Nnamdi Kanu, Ifeanyi Ejiofor, lawyer of the IPOB leader while addressing journalist in a press conference in Abuja, also demanded an investigation of the Commissioner of Police, Abia state Mr Ene Okon. He accused the Anambra State Police Command of allegedly working with a deadly terrorist group and the Police Commissioner of covering the tracks of the terrorist group in the state. Ejiofor stated that nobody can stop Kanu from attending the burial and that it is within the rights of Nnamdi Kanu to say who he wants attending the burial of his deceased parents. “There is no law or any court order prohibiting Nnamdi Kalu from attending the burial ceremony of his mother,” he said.

He added that it is in the best interest of all parties involved to avoid carnage and further bloodshed in Abia state. He advised that the army to rather send its troops to the war front, where they are needed. Parents of Kanu, his Royal Highness, late Eze Israel Okwu Kanu of Afaraukwu community, Umuahia, Abia State and wife, late Ugoeze Sally Nmeme Okwu Kanu, are to be buried on February 14.

Recall that the Police Commissioner had earlier warned members of IPOB to steer clear of the burial on February 14. CP Okon, had stated how the police would not allow IPOB to participate in the burial and if members of the proscribed organisation were seen anywhere around the burial venue, the police would disrupt the burial. In response to claims of the attack on his house in Oraifite by armed men, Barrister Ifeanyi Ejiofor disclosed that he has filed a suit on the FG, Army and Police.

He stated his belief that the men behind the attacks are assassins in disguise. The people behind the attacks were armed with sophisticated weapons as well as armoured tankers, he said. He added that the Nigerian Army has responded to his file, denying any knowledge on the attack on his house or the community.
