Nigerian govt. develops new soil, crop-specific fertilizer blend
The minister of agriculture and rural development has disclosed that the federal government in partnership with research institutes and agricultural experts has developed a soil compatible fertilizer for distinct states of the federation.
Audu Ogbeh said “this was in the belief that every state had a distinct soil type so the generalized NPK 15:15:15 formulated fertilizer was not going to suffice individual soil types in different states of the federation.”
He therefore employed all states of the federation to comply and use this fertilizer blend for effective yield and bumper harvest.
This call comes at the wake of the dreaded tomato paste “Tuta absoluta” (locally called the “tomato Ebola”), the tomato paste which has invaded tomato farms in Nigeria, causing low yield and ravage to these farms, resulting to tomato scarcity in the country.
