Nigeria Senate President Saraki to face trial after losing Supreme Court appeal
The Supreme Court has dismissed an appeal filed by Senate president Bukola Saraki against his trial by Code of Conduct Tribunal for asset declaration.
Bukola Saraki went to court to challenge the jurisdiction of the Court of Conduct Tribunal where he is facing trial over alleged false declaration of his assets.
Mr Saraki pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Going by the judgement, the code of conduct tribunal can proceed to try the Senate President, who is the third highest ranking political office holder in Nigeria.
If found guilty, Mr. Saraki may lose his position and be banned from political office for 10 years.
