Niger-Delta Amnesty beneficiaries warn Nigerian govt: We may return to the creeks

Beneficiaries of Federal Government Amnesty Programme stormed the National Assembly in Abuja on Thursday June 21 to protest non-payment of their allowances by the Amnesty Office.

Leader of the protesters, Evan Joshua, told Oak TV that the Office had not paid beneficiaries of the programme for months.

He explained that the fund given to the office by government was being used for business by its leaders.

He said: “The Amnesty programme is fake. Those who are in charge that are handling this thing are doing business with the programme…

“If they don’t pay us, they only ask us to go back (to the creeks) That is where we feed from…They encourage illegal bunkering,” he said.

The beneficiaries are repentant militants granted amnesty by the government, given stipends and trained by government.

President Muhammadu Buhari had sacked General Paul Boroh and appointed Prof. Charles Dokubo as his successor as the Amnesty Office boss.

But, the beneficiaries claimed nothing has changed since he assumed office.
