Kano seeks Nigerian govt support to establish fertilizer processing plant
The Kano state government has solicited Federal Government’s support towards successful implementation of the pilot NEEM fertilizer processing plant in the state.
A step towards boosting the gross domestic product (GDP) of Nigeria through science, technology and innovation. Bilikisu Waziri, Chairperson, Action committee for the establishment of NEEM fertilizer processing plant in Kano state, stated this during a visit to the Minister of Science and Technology in Abuja.
Reeling out the various achievements recorded by the Kano state Ministry of Education, Science, Technology and Innovation, amongst which is the establishment of new agencies and outstations which Waziri says will contribute to the development and expansion of skills and innovations to drive the aspirations of Nigerians.
She appealed to the Minister to assist states in soliciting intervention programs in order to promote innovations for the benefit of all Nigerians.
On his part, the Minister of Science and Technology, Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu, expressed the federal government’s willingness to partner Kano state government on the production of Neem fertilizer and application of research findings for food security and national development.
Onu, gave the assurance when the Permanent Secretary, Kano State Ministry of Education, Science, Technology and Innovation and Chairperson Action Committee for the establishment of Neem Fertilizer processing plant, Hajija Bilkisu Waziri, paid him a courtesy on Monday in Abuja.
The Minister also adviced the Kano State government to create an independent Ministry of Science and Technology to facilitate the application of science and technology innovations to provide an enabling environment for Nigeria to move from resource-based to knowledge- based innovation driven economy.
He said that the State Science and Technology University in Wudil would be added advantage to people if an independent Science and Technology Ministry is created adding that the products from these two institutions will create wealth and provide jobs for our youths as well as economic growth of our great country.
He commended the kano state government for looking inwards in trying to meet the needs of the nation adding that Nigeria used to produce enough to feed her people but lately that became a very big problem, stressing that it is very important that we feed ourselves.
