Kaduna LG Poll: Governor El-Rufai speaks on electronic voting, APC victory

Two days after the conclusion of Kaduna State Local Government Election, the state governor, Nasir El-Rufai has commended the people of Kaduna for embracing electronic voting.

El-Rufai in a media briefing on Tuesday in Kaduna also praised the maturity displayed by the citizens of the state during and after the election.

He pointed out that in a bid to promote electoral integrity and transparency and complement the use of card reading machine adopted by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) the state invested in the electronic voting as a follow up.

Mr. El-Rufai described his government decision to procure the electronic voting machines as being wise. He explained that the machines would save future cost of printing ballot papers.

Though there were apprehension from some politicians but the governor went ahead with plans to pilot electronic voting. El-Rufai said, “We never doubted that our people will embrace electronic voting”.

According to the governor, voters have acknowledged the hitch free operation of the electronic voter machine and its user-friendly interface and speed voting process.

As it is the case with elections world over, the Kaduna election also had its challenges and this was acknowledge by the governor.

Recall that Kaduna state held local government election last Saturday with the ruling All progressive Congress (APC) wining 12 local government and the opposition Peoples Democratic Party clinching the remaining five.
