EDO: Mounting pressure for Gov. Obaseki as group makes tough demand

The Old Boys’ Association of Annunciation Catholic College have called on the Edo state government to handover the school to Catholic mission, citing mismanagement and dwindling standard of the college under government’s care.

The president of the association, Dr. Omo-Ehijele Frank Odafen, made this known to newsmen during a press briefing in Abuja on November 14, 2016.

“Over the years, since government took over our school, ACC, it has undergone both structural and organic decay. All our dormitories and staff quarters have unwittingly become unsightly dilapidated. Our classrooms and school chapel have not fared better. Our students have lost the enviable institutional flavor of the old ACC,” he said.

He stated that for several years, the old boys’ have been the only source for renovation and erections of new buildings, as well recruiting and paying NYSC members who teach English and Mathematics at both the junior and senior secondary schools.

It is on the above premise that the group plea with the state government to relinquish the management of the school for takeover by the Catholic mission.

In his word, “On account of this, the diamond jubilee gift we shall humbly request from our state government, under the leadership of the world-class financial economist, His Excellency Governor of Edo State, Godwin Obaseki, is the restoration and return of our alma mater back to the catholic mission”.

The association stated that such move will restore the lost glory of the school and will help in strengthening the institution as well as guarantee the education outcomes from the college.
