Boko Haram: Saraki discloses 3% VAT funds allocated to NEDC for rebuilding North-East, Kano, Plateau
Senate yesterday passed the North East Development Commission (NEDC) Bill with the inclusion of Kano and Plateau as benefiting states.
The passage of the bill empowers the federal government to establish the commission to rebuild the North-east region damaged by the Boko Haram insurgency.
Inclusion of the two states was sequel to adoption of amendment sought by Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso (APC, Kano Central) during the final debate on the bill.
Kwankwaso said the two states were negatively affected by the insurgency and that they should be considered.
When Senate President Bukola Saraki put the question on Kwankwaso’s prayer, his colleagues supported the inclusion of the two states.
Our correspondent reports that the commission when established would be funded with three percent of the accrueable Federal Value Added Tax (VAT) for 10 years.
