The Chairman of the International Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission, Ekpo Nta has called on the government to pay aviation support staff well in order to sustain the gains made in the fight against corruption.

He said this at the launching of the public presentation of the report of Corruption Risk Assessment in Abuja international Airports on Friday.
“Low and poor salaries of airport officials makes them subdue themselves to be used against the security of the airports” he said
According to the chairman, some of the tarmac landing lights are not working due to software glitch and there has been some complains of it not working even when the contractors have been called back to rectify it within the quarantine period.
From records by the commission, passenger and baggage screening equipment are inadequate and suffer a frequent breakdown which compounds the problem of human contact with officials.
From research, 62.2% of passengers surveyed said officials normally demand bribes when carrying out their duties while 55.5% said the integrity of the officials is quite low.
Corruption risks were identified at three levels namely: Environmental Level which deals with legal instruments, socio-cultural and political environment influencing integrity at the airports; Organizational Level which involves coordination of operations and control at the Airports; Personnel Level: it deals with pressure on staff, Rationalization and opportunities to be corrupt.
