The former president of Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) had last week in Abuja declared his interest to vie for the ruling party’s national chairmanship.

He is also being rumoured as favourite candidate of President Muhammadu Buhari and a national leader of the party, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.

Saraki is believed to have been at loggerheads with certain leaders of the party, and his group which merged with other political parties to form the APC in 2013 have already given the ruling party ultimatum to consider its grievances.

While the APC had admitted that the grievances of the Saraki’s group, the new Peoples Democratic Party, are genuine, it is not clear whether the group will remain in the party to participate in its convention where national officers of the party will be elected in coming weeks.
