82 Rescued Chibok Girls: UNHCR hails Buhari, call for IDPs protection
United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, UNHCR, on Wednesday commended the Nigerian government over the rescue of the 82 adopted Chibok schoolgirls.
UNHCR representative to Nigeria and ECOWAS, Jose Canhandula gave the commendation at a workshop on Protection of Internally Displaced Persons in Abuja.
“The free of the 82 Chibok girls and the significant increase in returees of both IDPs and refugees is a step forward in the right direction and shows that progress is being made. UNHCR congratulates the government in its leadership role in this regard.”
Declaring the workshop open, Mr. Jose said the workshop would focus on issues directly affecting UNHCR’s ability to effectively respond to IDPs need, identification of solutions to IDPs crises and IDPs and civilians self-sustainability.
The government of Nigeria last week announced the release of 82 Chibok girls by Boko Haram.
